Welcome to
Würzburg

June 18–21, 2025

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to the 50th Annual Conference on “Psychology and the Brain,” held from June 18–21, 2025, at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg!

This prestigious conference, organized in collaboration with the Biological Psychology and Neuropsychology Section of the German Psychological Society (DGPs) and the German Society for Psychophysiology and its Application (DPGA), will once again cover a wide range of topics—from the neurobiological foundations of experience and behavior to applied psychological research. The diverse program includes three inspiring keynote lectures, numerous specialized symposia, and an array of engaging scientific poster sessions. As always, several pre-conference workshops will be offered, providing valuable insights. Of course, there will be plenty of opportunities to network and exchange ideas with colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere.

The entire team looks forward to welcoming you to Würzburg!

Keynote Speakers

professor

Peter Dayan

Peter Dayan

⠀⠀

Peter Dayan

(Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Tübingen)

Dr. Dayan and his team examine brain mechanisms underlying decision-making with a specific focus on how experiences shape choices through reinforcement learning. His work investigates the role of neuromodulators like dopamine in both typical and disrupted behaviors, including mental health conditions like depression. By modeling decision-making and psychiatric conditions, he seeks to examine the clinical relevance of theoretical understanding.

Daniela Mier

(Universität Konstanz)

Dr. Mier and her team investigate biological correlates of social-cognitive processes in healthy and clinical conditions. She is interested in neural circuitries promoting empathy and social interaction, particularly in schizophrenia and in forensic populations. Additionally, her team investigates psychotherapy for mental disorders with a focus on psychosis and uses brain imaging to identify markers of mental illness, aiming to improve early detection and therapeutic approaches.

Andreas Keil

Andreas Keil

⠀⠀

Andreas Keil

(University of Florida)

Dr. Keil and his team explore how our perception of the world is influenced by our inner states, goals, and experiences. Through behavioral studies, physiological analysis, and brain imaging, he studies how sensory systems in the brain contribute to mental health, signal brain dysfunction, and can be harnessed for promoting well-being by leveraging the brain's adaptability.
